Spring cleaning tips to freshen up your website

Actual birds, and not rain, woke me this morning. Spring is trying to break through, at bloomin’ last!

It's the perfect time to review and refresh your website. Clear out any parts that aren't particularly user-friendly and spruce up your online presence with shiny, new content.

Fresh websites can help you to:

  • stay relevant.

  • enhance your user experience.

  • boost your site performance.

  • improve trustworthiness.

  • increase your search engine rankings and click through rates.

Here's some ways I can help to breathe new life into your website:

1. Optimise your copy with fresh keywords

Making sure your site appeals to your audience and to search engines is paramount. Your content needs to be relevant, useful and informative. I can help to reflect your tone of voice and brand personality. It's also super important that your content features the right keywords. A keyword strategy helps to ensure the keywords appear naturally. I usually start with updating headlines, title tags and meta descriptions and then look to edit other key sections

for optimal optimisation.

2. Spruce up your hero image

If you had a physical shop, chances are you'd have a seasonal window display to attract passing trade. Your virtual shopfront is also precious real estate and should receive the same treatment. Fresh new slogans, campaigns and images should feature front and centre on your home page to show your website visitors that you've got your finger on the pulse and are ever-evolving.

3. Get your blog blooming

Blogs are one of the most effective ways of keeping your content fresh and your search rankings high. You may already have a blog in place but without regular articles being published, it will not be of great use. Although ever-changing, at the heart of search engine algorithms is demonstrating expertise, authoritativeness and trustworthiness.

Creating content which covers search queries that the rest of your website doesn't, will improve your organic click through rate. Discover more about my blog services here.

4. Let the sunny case studies in

The proof is always in the pudding. That's why it's essential to shout about other people's experience of your product or service. Every time you receive a glowing online review, on Google or Facebook, it's good practice to update your website too. I can also help to co-ordinate and produce more detailed case studies to demonstrate success stories, which can be used throughout your marketing to gain higher quality leads.

5. Hatch your brand story

Your About Us page is where you humanise your brand. It's the space where you can start to build connection and trust with your prospective customers. I can review your current page and make adjustments to ensure you are concisely explaining what it is you do and why. Telling your story in the most engaging way possible. That may well be by giving greater insights with a memorable anecdote or by introducing a timeline to show how far you've come. Anything compelling and memorable that tells the visitor they have come to the right place, will do the trick.

6. Declutter messy formatting

Providing a positive user experience involves visitors being able to easily access and navigate your site. Decluttering layouts and removing dead links can go a long way to building connections with your visitors which will convert them into customers and fans. I can help to bring structure to ensure your content is easy to read. While I'm there, I can offer advice on how to improve upon your website design without a complete overhaul. Making use of images, data, quotes and call to actions can all help to clean up your design.

7. Clean out the fluff

Your website may already be jam packed full of words. However, if the site isn't clearly and concisely explaining what you do, those words are pretty redundant. I can help to edit and position your messaging as well as creating impactful headlines. By creating words which resonate and identifying your customer's pain points, you can start to make meaningful connections with your audience online.
